Tico & the Man’s Stories XVIII: Sounds of Earth

The next journey was dedicated to the Earth itself. Fairy Lady Gina highlighted that it was the most important one as it was their motherland.

‘No matter who or what we are, my dear Tico, we all belong somewhere, to a certain place. It is a source of our life, and even if you are a sea creature or a parrot, it comes from Earth. She gives birth to us. The Earth is our origin and our end. Even the Fairy world of mine is a fruit of her. We must never forget about it and must respect her by means of our modest practical deeds. Today you are going to see her most poetic places and the most awful ones polluted by humans. They call them dumps, and these places are wounds of the Earth that must be cured otherwise our planet will die.’

‘My Lady, I’m so sad to learn that she suffers…because of these humans! If they hurt her so much, why would not she get rid of them?’

‘Oh, Tico! Don’t be so cruel! We must respect any form of life! Human beings themselves are not dangerous, on the contrary, they have a great potential for good initiatives. Their problem is an uneasy mind that pushes them to do harm.’

‘What I have seen makes me disagree with you, my Lady. Destructions they make are unbearable!’

‘True but not hopeless. If they remember how to treat the planet well, any disorder and Earth wound will be healed soon. Anyway, it’s time to set off. Please, bite this very twig.’

This time Tico saw majestic mountain chains and canyons where Echo was playing with the wind, sea rocks and reefs that crushed ships and furious waves, sleeping and active volcanoes ejecting lava around. He found these views dangerous and even cruel, so he was very surprised when they found themselves in meadows and fields full of flowers, butterflies and bees.

‘How changeable our Earth is!’ the parrot exclaimed. ‘There are so many ways of its expressions I’m unable to count!’

‘The Earth is our matter, dear Tico. On one hand, it is our stability. On the other, it is our transformation, allegorically symbolizing the late Summer, the time of ripening. At the same time there are areas that might seem to be lifeless, but in reality they are not. We call them deserts. Look!’

In a moment they found themselves on a naked sandy space. It was hot so much that took our hero’s breath.

‘My Lady, it is unbelievable! All this…is it the Earth?’

‘It is, my dear Tico, while each grain of sand tells that many centuries ago there was a totally different life here: a forest, a sea or, perhaps, a meadow. You might think that this area is dead but this image is deceptive. There are creatures that enjoy living here. Be careful of snakes, though. They might be poisonous.’

That moment several small lizards appeared from sand and rushed somewhere under the broiling sun. Tico and Fairy Lady spent the whole day exploring the dessert. The parrot was really astounded to learn how much beauty existed in these severe lands. The biggest surprise waited for Tico at night, when an impressive star carpet covered the sky and the earth united with the fresh wind began performing its lullaby.

‘Oh, My Lady! I’m speechless! This is the most beautiful view I have seen in our travel! Oh, this music! Oh, these stars! They seem to sing along with the sand and the wind!’

‘Listen, my dear Tico! Listen to the song of the desert!’

  1. I tended to agree with Tico on eliminating humans but I’m glad you are taking a better route, Dear Maria. To see and hear the music of the Earth is a much better way to raise awareness of what needs to be done. A lovely post.
