Esteemed Readers, here are some latest miscellaneous tidings of November 1634, the period of the Thirty Years’ War (1618-1648). The life goes on no matter canon shots & troops crossing European lands back & forth.
Hamburg, the 3rd November, 1634: “The half of the town Glukstad is ruined due to a flood happened several days ago. The water is going to be drawn to let the King of Denmark pass to the Elbe river. It will allow him to continue his way to capture the diocese Breme. They are going to kill two birds with one stone in front of Minden (town)…”
Bruxelles, the 18th November, 1634: “These days the Count Jean de Nassau is passing by Ruremonde with a half of his infantry. De Brion’s regiment is at Vertogny. Those of de Frezin, Rouvroy, Crequi & du Moulin follow it. All of them must join the Count Mansfield. This city (NB: Vertogny) has gifted to Cardinal Infante some boxes of Rhine wine with golden corks…”
Paris, the 25th November, 1634: “On the 17th of the given month Sieur Biart, a Royal Sculptor, melted a bronze figure of 12 feet high. It represents a Galatea staying on a sea shell. There is a sea monster at her feet of 8 feet high. It is a rare masterpiece of an exceptional size & beauty that has ever been crafted in France…”

Can you imagine how much money it would take to conduct a 30 years war? It must have taxed the people immensely.
Oh, I have been thinking about it a lot, dear John. The curious fact is that the army was paid by its captains, not by the state. I’m curious to comprehend how they managed it.
It does seem a mystery for sure.
😎😎😎😊🍻🍤🍤🍤
here is a site that will shed some (not all) light on the finances of the Thirty Years
Thank you, my dear friend John! It is always interesting to learn something else on the topic.

Vorrei vedere quella statua…
Anch’io, cara Fulvialuna. Sto per cercare negli arichivi. Deve essere una opera particolare. 🙂
Spero tu possa trovarlo.
Cara Fulvialuna, il nome moderno del scultore è Pierre Biard il GIovane (1592-1662). Guarda le sue opere. Sono bellissime, pieni della grazia. 🙂
Grazie, le cerco.
