Esteemed Readers, the Thirty Years’ War (1618-1648) is in progress. Even being exhausted the Imperialists refuse to sign at least a separate peace. Here are some tidings about the troop dispositions.
Mulhausen in Thuringia, the 15th of September, 1634: “The Duke Guillame de Weimar stays in Schleusingen where he is gathering 6000 solders. Most of them passed through the town on the 11th/12th of the given month. For example, the Colonel Ranzau with 4 cavalry detachments did it yesterday. Meanwhile 13 regiments of Landgrave de Hesse & the Duke de Lunebourg have already reached Hirsfeld. Now they are moving united in a great alliance…”
Wirsbourg, the 16th of September, 1634: “Our garrison has been reinforced with another 1000 solders & 500 dragoons from Ochsenfurt to continue (our) resistance to the Imperial army. We have been reassured that the King of HUngary returns his army to Bohemia as he believes that he (might) lose this Kingdom. There are 3000 Imperialists around Winsheim…”
Prague, the 11th September, 1634: “The Saxon army has been staying along the River Elba. Its headquarter is situated at Podibord. The Imperial one is partially at Brandeis, Golni & Portewiz; partially in this city (Prague) where plague & famine are growing day after day. This week it (the Imperial army) began repairing the Brandeis bridge but the General Major Stalhans the Swedish ruined its plans…”
Dresden, the 26th September, 1634: “Right yesterday Our Elector accompanied by his General Lieutenant Arnheim left this city. Together they are intending to make a swift force attack to Prague…”
