Saints of the Russian Orthodox Church: Nestor of Thessaloniki

Nestor of Thessaloniki (about 306) is a Saint-Martyr whose bravery & force might serve an encouraging example for us. He is considered to be a companion of St. Demetrius of Thessaloniki.

He lived under the reign of severe Emperor Maximian (250-310) who persecuted the Christians. Little information is know about him except his brave fight against a feared pagan gladiator Lyeios who tormented the Christians.

Nestor asked imprisoned St. Demetrius for blessing  & no matter his young age defeated Lyeios. The Emperor became furious & ordered to decapitate the future Saint.

Nestor of Thessaloniki is celebrated on the 9th of November.
