Voyage de Siam par l’Abbé de Choisy 1685-1686 XI

Esteemed Readers, we go on our voyage to the Tropic of Capricorn. Soon appetizers, fresh salads & best fishes are served! Enjoy yourselves! 😉🍤

Aboard the Oiseau, 3 May 1685

“…A little Zephyr is coming from the West. It is so little is it is blowing from far lands. We are expecting it to become stronger. That is an ordinary thing happening with the winds”.

Aboard the Oiseau, 5 May 1685

“The altitude cannot be measured. It is foggy on the horizon. Finally the proper wind has come from the West. It will allow us to spend fifteen days at the Cape. It is exactly what we need. It has appeared slowly from the North. We sail two lieuës per hour, & we are not too swift. When the vessel sails fast, there is no time to adjust it…”

“Here is a good wind. It did not calm down neither at the dawn nor at noon. There were only two times when it was interrupted but it began blowing again. In fifteen days we are expecting to have some fresh salad & good fishes. Indeed the good ones! We have seen plenty of them in the high seas, while two-three lieuës from the shores they are especially delicious!…”
