Esteemed Readers, I have discovered a great TV series covering the period of the Great October Revolution 1917, the Civil War that followed after it & the Second World War in the Soviet Union. It is called “The State Border” (1980 -1988). It was made by Belorussian film directors Bor’is Step’anov, Vyachesl’av Nikifor’ov & Genn’adij Ivanov whose goal was to shot a serious movie with plenty of real facts & events.
Strangely enough it is completely unknown abroad. This great film tells about life at our borders in these troublesome periods as well it explains meanings & essential points of the Soviet power, shows the reaction of the society to the Bolshevik Coup & problems we had that time.
There are 8 episodes in the set (1 episode contains 2 parts):
- “We Our, New…”(we our, new world will build. Who was nobody, would become everything is a famous Bolshevik slogan of that time) – dedicated to 1917.
- “The Peaceful Summer of 1921” – dedicated to the Civil War of that period.
- “The Oriental Frontier” – dedicated to events of 1929 happened at the Russian-Chinese border.
- “The Red Sand” – dedicated to the Central Asian local conflicts in 1930.
- “1941” – dedicated to the beginning of the Second World War in Russia.
- “After Victory” – dedicated to events in the Ukraine 1946 when last groups of the local Nazists survived.
- “The Salty Wind” – dedicated to events in the Baltic States of 1950s.
- “At the Far Border” – dedicated to events of 1980s when foreign intelligent services formed spy nets at the Russian borders.
I’m certain that you will enjoy this TV series as they are very informative & versatile. Youtube offers a version with an auto-translation in any language, so I hope it will be fine: “The State Borders” (1980-1988).
