Esteemed Readers, it is 5th September, Louis XIV’s birthday today. So His Majesty goes on his pleasant journey to Luxembourg surrounded with His Court, Ministers, Guards & us:
“I even don’t mention you all the places & time when the King held his Council. This Prince never wastes his time in anything concerning affaires of the State. For them he sacrifices his rest & leisure. He holds the Council in any place & at any hour when he considers it to be important for the best of his Kingdom. During his journey to Luxembourg he worked as much as he did in Versailles. That’s true that most of his Ministers are out. (For example), Mr. de Croissy was the only one who represented Paris at the Monarch. Moreover, as the King is the Prime Minister himself, we can say that he often works alone apart of the Council.
While working with his ordinary zeal, he desired that his Court entertained itself. For this purpose he arranged plenty of chambers of his temporary Appartements for various games (ex. billiard, cards, etc).
…After having heard the Mass, the King headed for Monceaux. The whole Court moved to Meaux to reach this Royal Residence. When His Majesty moved along this town (Meaux) under cheering applauses of his People, he paid a visit to the Regiment de Vivans, which had participated in battles with him. This is a highly praised Regiment of Cavalry both by quality of their Knights and by beauty of their horses. This Regiment was moving to thier Camp at the Saone & stayed at Meaux. That’s why it had an honour to be visited by the King. His Majesty was very pleased & found it splendid. He also accepted with joy a dog belonging to Mr. Ligrades, who is the captain…”To be continued.
The beginning for those who have missed it:
Vive le Roy! 🙂
