Jean-Baptiste Lully: Le Bourgeois Gentilhomme

“Le Bourgeois Gentilhomme” is a brilliant comedy-ballet, a fruit of two genii, Moliére & Jean-Baptiste Lully. The first performance took place October 14, 1670 in  Château of Chambord. Decorations were made by Carlo Vigarani, costumes were inspired by Chevalier d’Arvieux. The success was deafening.

The plot should be known to you, Esteemed Readers. In fact, “Le Bourgeois Gentilhomme” is a play out of time. It is still urgent & I suppose that there are too many characters like Messire Jourdain in our hi-tech reality. I should notice that ballet entrées are rather fabulous in this performances. They add very particular satirique mood to the story.

I present you Sarabande to transmit some festive mood for last days of August.

Vive le Roy! 🙂
