Tom Jobim: Insensatez

‘Insensatez’/’How Insensitive’ is another masterpiece created by Tom Jobim & Vinicius de Moraes. They say that the music resembles Prelude Op. 28 in E Minor by Frédéric Chopin. The composition is very melancholic & seems to be very close the the spiritual music by Jean-Baptiste Lully.

The text also has some interconnection with the spiritual topic. It tells about hurt feelings, selfishness & confession. “The one who doesn’t beg for forgiveness, will never be forgiven” is the moral of this wonderful song. To my mind, Tom Jobim & Vinicius de Moraes managed to create a rare masterpiece where sadness is blended with hope, where repentance helps to fight with our own ego.

‘Insensatez’ has been performed by numerous singers & used as a sound track in various films: ‘Bossa Nova’ by Luiz Carlos Barreto, ‘Seven Pounds’ by Gabrielle Muccino, ‘Lost Highway’ by David Lynch. I hope that this timeless bossa nova hit will inspire modern young artists in future as well.
