Jean-Baptiste Lully: Anima Christi

Esteemed Readers, here is another wonderful composition from “Les Petits Motets” by Jean-Baptiste Lully. It is based on a very popular Medieval prayer ‘Anima Christi’. The curious fact is that this prayer might have been made by the Pope John XXII somewhere in the 14th century. Lully managed to unite his particular baroque style & an incredible spiritual solemnity so pleasant to be listened.

I provide the original Latin text below:

Anima Christi, sanctifica me.Corpus Christi, salva me. Sanguis Christi, inebria me. Aqua lateris Christi, lava me. Passio Christi, conforta me. O bone Jesu, exaudi me. Intra tua vulnera absconde me. Ne permittas me separari a te. Ab hoste maligno defende me. In hora mortis meae voca me. Et jube me venire ad te,ut cum Sanctis tuis laudem te,In saecula saeculorum. Amen.

Enjoy listening! Happy Orthodox Easter! Vive le Roy! 🙂
